A Rated & A+ Rated Windows & Doors
All of the windows and doors we supply and install here at Nation Windows are A-rated and A+ rated. You’ve probably seen the ‘rainbow labels’ attached to many of your products in the home to show what energy rating they are. Each product’s rating is based on a unique formula which looks at aspects such as their thermal efficiency, frame material and design, solar gain, glass type and air leakage.
A and A+ are two of the best energy-efficient ratings applied to windows and doors. It means the way they’re designed and manufactured reduces heat loss from your home and ensures your glazing has superior thermal performance. This saves you money on your energy bills as it decreases a business or home’s dependence on using fuel and heating to add warmth to their rooms.

U Values
You may have seen u-values applied to windows and doors which also let you know more about the energy performance of the product. The lower the u-value, the more energy efficient the window or door is, rating the effectiveness of the material as an insulator.
All of our products offer a great – which is the most commonly used system – has a u-value of 1.4 for windows and 1.8 for doors, for example.
Keeping your home warm is important and can also save you money on your heating costs. This is why here at Nation Windows, we only supply and install double glazing that is energy efficient, lead-free and designed to help you lower your carbon footprint.

Carbon Footprint
Did you know by just having new uPVC double glazing installed you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint and CO2 emissions by approximately 2/3 of a tonne each year? We all accept that using energy-efficient products is the right thing to do for our environment, but when it’s also good for saving money, how can we go wrong?
Nation Windows install a variety of double glazing options from our standard A Rated windows to triple glazing and Homeguard that are designed to retain heat, encourage lower heating bills and reduce carbon footprint, all using predominantly lead-free materials.

Energy saving trust
All our double glazing is recommended by the Energy Saving Trust which has certified double glazing installers for the greatest uPVC profiles available. Each window we install comes with the Energy Saving Trust Recommended logo.
100% Lead-Free
uPVC double-glazed windows and doors from Nation Windows are 100% lead-free which means they aren’t harmful to our environment in any way. Nation Windows are pleased to be trusted installers of one of the few uPVC profiles available to be strong enough to not require any lead reinforcements.
What Does Energy Efficiency Mean?
Energy efficiency entails minimising the use of fuels like gas and electricity for powering your home, thereby making it more economical to maintain. It further lessens reliance on fossil fuels.
Enhancing energy efficiency and cutting down on energy usage across the UK aids in fulfilling government-mandated promises aimed at combating climate change.
Improvements in energy efficiency cover enhancing your home’s insulation, optimising your heating and hot water systems for maximum efficiency, and fitting windows that conserve energy.
Why Does Energy Efficiency Matter?
The energy crisis serves as a critical alert, intensifying the search for renewable energy sources. The unpredictability of energy prices underscores our vulnerability due to reliance on fossil fuels and how unpredictable energy expenses can become.
Climate change remains an urgent challenge that, as a country, we have committed to tackling. At present, 22% of the UK’s carbon emissions originate from residential settings.
By lowering our domestic energy costs, we can begin to play a part in achieving climate change objectives and gain better management over variable energy rates.
What Actions Is the Government Taking to Enhance Energy Efficiency?
The UK Government is committed to elevating the standards of residential properties across the nation. The goal is to upgrade 700,000 homes by 2025, ensuring that by 2050, all households will utilise low-carbon heating solutions.
Significant investments are directed towards enhancing the energy efficiency of low-income homes, aiming to boost their Energy Efficiency Rating to grade C or above.
The government plans to discontinue the sale of gas boilers starting from 2030, shifting towards the adoption of heat pumps for residential heating.
To encourage the uptake of energy-efficient solutions, incentives are being offered, such as a VAT exemption on the installation of energy-saving materials like insulation and low-carbon heating systems. Programmes like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and the Green Home Finance Accelerator are designed to support the decarbonisation of residential buildings.
Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
The introduction of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) aims to raise awareness among homeowners about their energy usage and encourage actions to reduce carbon emissions.
The EPC assesses and documents the energy consumption and typical costs of a property, offering suggestions for enhancements to its energy efficiency. Improving your property’s EPC rating is a step towards achieving greater energy efficiency in your home.
Energy Efficiency Rating
Residences are evaluated through EPCs on a scale from A (most efficient) to G, and a certificate is required for properties being sold or leased. Currently, rental properties must meet a minimum EPC rating of E, with proposals in place to elevate this requirement to a rating of C for rentals, pending confirmation.
Enhancing your EPC rating can not only lead to reduced energy bills but also potentially increase your property’s market value and appeal.
How to Increase Your Home's Energy Efficiency
Improving your home’s energy efficiency can be approached in various ways. Starting with a ‘fabric-first’ strategy is advisable, which prioritises upgrading the building’s infrastructure. Addressing any structural inefficiencies is akin to fixing a leaky bucket before adding more water.
Prioritising insulation is essential to keeping heat within the home and preventing cold air from entering. Beyond cavity wall and loft insulation, installing energy-efficient windows can significantly reduce heat loss.
After addressing structural issues, focus on optimising the efficiency of your heating and hot water systems to further decrease energy costs.
Consulting the recommendations in your EPC can provide specific guidance on making your home more energy-efficient.
By adopting these measures, you could reduce your heating expenses by up to 20%, making your household more energy-efficient.
